Software engineer
With
an added push from the government’s ‘Make in India’ scheme,
manufacturing and its sub sectors will need nearly 97 million skilled
workers by 2022. Among these, software engineers will be the most
sought-after. There will be plenty of jobs for skilled candidates,
especially at entry level. The Digital India scheme is also generating
demand for IT graduates. In general, a software engineer must have
hands-on knowledge of designing, developing and debugging web
applications. The work also involves communicating with clients and
departments to assess and define what solution or system is needed.

The job needs a mix of business and technical knowledge. They must plan
well, coordinate and execute testing of new features and applications
and convert client requirements into technical terms to be used by the
development team and advise clients on resource requirements, scope,
budgets and timing.

Key skills: Analysis, ability to solve problems, good communication and troubleshooting skills

Technical support
In
general, tech support is the backbone of the IT infrastructure of an
organisation. These professional troubleshooters resolve all technical
issues related to software and the range of products and services of an
organisation, besides interacting with clients to resolve their problems
and gather feedback. Testing and analysis of all products and services
is the core element of the role. Tech support professionals also need to
identify any bugs/issues in the system and assist in their resolution
and build strategies to improve efficiency, profitability and quality of
service.

Key skills: Tech knowledge, ability to solve problems and good communicationskills

Technical sales
Technical
sales profile requires an understanding of how IT is used in business.
Like any other sales profile, it is a target-oriented role and requires
excellent communication and selling skills. One has to demonstrate the
product and convince the customer about it.

skills: Convincing and customer relation skills, positive attitude,
product knowledge, interpersonal skills, flexibility with schedules,
excellent communication and business awareness.

Web developer
Web
development is related to building websites and the infrastructure
behind them. The role has seen increased demand, especially due to the
e-commerce and startup push. Strong technical knowledge of how web-based
technologies apply to web design is essential for the role.

Key skills: Basic understanding of web technologies, analytical thinking and creativity.
