What are the mistakes people do in an interview when they are asked, "tell me about yourself"?

Mistakes, candidates make:

1. Answering the question in the language other than it was asked in.Mostly questions are asked in English. Don't know about other states but here in Gujarat, people don't know much English. They start answering in their mother tongue Gujarati or Hindi.
2. Fumbling while speaking. Don't know what candidates are afraid of. They're not going to lose anything. This clearly shows that they themselves are not confident about their skills. Why should we?
3. To not be able to tell more than 2-3 sentences. Despite knowing that this is a common question and the interviewer will surely ask to introduce, the candidates come with no preparation. When they're asked this question, they end up telling their name and their result in their semesters. (he can read it in your resume!)
4. Telling about their family instead of themselves. Once they're done with their introduction, don't know why they start introducing their families: "My father is this, my mother is this, I have two brothers one of whom is married, there is one sister studying in xyz and blah blah blah"! Why man why?

Now, here is what I expect as an interviewer apart from the name, city and education of the candidate:

1. Which technologies do you expertise in?
2. What are your skills? (e.g. Coding, Designing, SEO, Database or what?)
3. Any paper/articles/blog published if any?
4. Any Software Project developed in academic years apart from the final semester project?
5. Any co-curricular project, workshop, seminar or event participated in?
6. What subjects or topics you're interested in you have studied in academic years?
7. Which type of job you're interested in? (Don't say anything that company assigns you to do. Will you accept it if they recruit you as a Data Entry Operator?)
8. What are you career plans and what you want to be ultimately?
