Citymapper is an urban transport app that is designed to make it easier
to navigate cities. It includes an A to B journey planner, real-time

Dropbox lets you back up all the photos, documents, videos and other

Vine lets you create short looping videos, called Vines, and share them
with friends and contacts. Like tweets, Vines are limited in length to

WhatsApp
WhatsApp is a free messaging app that uses your phone’s Internet
connection – 4G, 3G, 2G, EDGE or Wi-Fi – to message and call friends

messages, and set up group chats with their contacts. The app is free
for the first year and costs 99p per year thereafter.
SwiftKey
SwiftKey is a clever keyboard app that uses artificial intelligence to
automatically learn your writing style, the words that matter to you
(including slang, nicknames and emoji) and how you like to type. Over
time, it will eliminate common typos and improve autocorrect and
predictive text. Users can type either by tapping or swiping from
letter to letter.
Uber
Uber, the controversial taxi hire app, provides a convenient way to
travel around cities. Users can set their pickup location on the map
using the phone's GPS and get picked up within minutes. The fare is
automatically charged to their credit card, PayPal or Google Wallet
account, so they don't need cash on hand. Uber currently operates in
London, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Bristol, Birmingham, and
Newcastle, as well as many other cities worldwide.

Music-streaming app Spotify lets users listen to a broad range of

users play any artist, album, or playlist on shuffle mode,

Skype
The Skype app lets you speak to friends and family in any county without
paying roaming charges. Users can conduct free voice and video calls
over their mobile network or WiFi, share photos and use the app for
instant messaging. They can also keep in touch with people who are not
on Skype, with low-cost calls and SMS to mobiles and landlines.
Evernote
One of the best note-taking apps available for Android, Evernote lets
you write notes and checklists, attach Office documents, PDFs and
photos, and discuss notes with other users without leaving the app.
Notes can be synchronised across all the user's computers and devices.
The app is free for up to 60MB of storage and includes ads, but users
can upgrade to Plus or Premium for an annual fee of £19.99 or £34.99
respectively.
Airbnb
If travel is your thing, Airbnb is a must-have app on your smartphone.
With over 450,000 listings in more than 34,000 cities, users can find
interesting places to stay almost anywhere in the world, communicate
with their host, plan an itinerary, and get directions to their
destination. Payments are made directly through the app, so no cash
needs to change hands, and hosts can also manage their listings
through the app.
Timehop
Timehop is a great app for anyone who enjoys a bit of nostalgia. The app
draws out old photos and posts from your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
and Foursquare accounts, to remind you what you were doing on that
day in previous years. It also offers up a few choice facts from
history.
Clash of Clans
One of the most popular games on Android, Clash of Clans lets you raise
your own fantasy barbarian army to defend your village from raiders.
Users can battle against millions of players worldwide and forge
allegiances with other players to destroy enemy clans. The app is free
to download and play but some game items can also be purchased for
real money.
Google Photos
Google Photos will likely come pre-installed with future versions of
Android, but for now you still have to download it from Google Play.

movie and TV show ever made, including who was in it, who made it, the
plot, user ratings, trailers, photos, reviews, quotes, goofs, trivia
and more.
Candy Crush Saga
The hugely addictive puzzle game, Candy Crush Saga, is still a favourite
among Android users, allowing you to move up through levels by
matching up combinations of coloured sweets. A great app for killing
time on the bus or the train. Candy Crush Saga is free to play but
some in-game items such as extra moves or lives require payment.
Pixlr
Pixlr is a powerful photo editing app that lets you quickly crop, rotate
and fine-tune any picture. The app offers over 2m combinations of
free effects, overlays and borders to personalise your images,
including red-eye removal and teeth whitening, creating
professional-looking results. There is also an auto-fix tool for

Snapchat
The original ephemeral messaging app, Snapchat lets you snap a photo or a

An easy way to order a takeaway food from your smartphone or tablet. The
Just Eat app lets you type in your postcode to search and order from
local restaurants, and pay online by card. Filtering tools let you
sort takeaways by rating, restaurant name, offer, distance and cuisine
type. The app also offers a wide range of discounts and offers.
Shazam
If you're always hearing songs you like while you're out and about but
can never remember the name of the song or the artist, Shazam is the
app for you. Shazam automatically identifies songs, pulls up music
lyrics and YouTube videos, and allows you to add the songs to your
Rdio and Spotify playlists. It also provides recommended tracks to
help users discover new music.
Tinder
The app that has transformed online dating, Tinder brings up pictures of
single people around you and asks you to swipe right to "like" or
left to "pass" on each person. If someone likes you back, you are
matched with that person, and you can start a conversation or arrange
to meet up. For a monthly subscription, users can access premium
features, including the ability to undo swipes and 'rewind' to their
last swipe for a second look.

Netflix is a great app for people who like to watch TV and films on the
go (and have a big data allowance). The app requires a Netflix

thousands of TV episodes and films. Users can also rate their
favourite programmes and films and receive recommendations on what
they might like to watch.
Strava
A great fitness app for both cyclists and runners, Strava lets you track

Facebook Messenger
Facebook's standalone messaging app had over 800 million active users at
the end of 2015. New features added in the last year include an Uber
integration, video calling and the artificially intelligent assistant
"M" which is currently only available to select users.
Periscope
Twitter-owned live-streaming app Periscope allows anyone to broadcast
video from anywhere in the world in real time. It gained a million
users in the first 10 days after its launch and has been used by
everyone from the Rolling Stones to David Cameron.
Amazon Prime Now
Amazon's app for Prime members launched in June 2015, and offers
shoppers in select UK postcodes one-hour delivery on their orders for
£6.99, or free delivery within a choice of two-hour delivery windows
between 8am and midnight the same day.
Robin Hood
An Apple Design award winner and a nominee for the best mobile app at
the Crunchies 2016, Robin Hood is a no-fee stock trading app. It has
reportedly brokered more than $1 billion in trades since its launch in
December 2014.
Pocket
Pocket is a smart bookmarking system that allows you to save articles,
web pages or videos to catch up with offline. It syncs your saved
content across all your devices, so it's always accessible.
